ABOUT US
“We don’t inherit the Earth from our ancestors,
we borrow it from our children.”
Hello! Welcome to Bowie’s Store. Nice to meet you. Nestle into the butt groove of your couch, get comfy and let’s get to know each other :D
Who are you?
We’re Karin and Fran. We’re committed to bringing you unisex cool kids clothes (that you secretly wanna wear yourself) without recklessly taxing the planet’s limited resources in the process.
We believe now is the time to make a difference in the fashion industry. It’s a time to toss out the old way of doing things, so we can make way for real change.
What stuff are you into?
Cute clothes for even cuter kids. Caring for the planet. The idea that those things aren’t mutually exclusive.
What stuff don’t you like?
Well, stuff. We believe there are too many clothes, made by too many brands, and not enough time to sell it all before the next collection comes along. Which leads us to…
WASTE. Waste is the sworn enemy of Bowie’s Store —the Joker to our Batman— and the whole reason we started this project. Our goal is simple: to reduce garment waste in the fashion industry.
So, you are against waste. What are you gonna do about it?
Find the balance between production and consumption so less garment waste ends up in landfill. We believe one of the best ways to do this is to reduce the amount of product that goes in markdowns during the sales period.
We want to encourage everyone to invest in good quality garments from responsible brands. We want to see less discounted stuff in the world and more mindful spending. Happy wardrobe, happy planet.
But, Bowie, I still have some questions. What makes you so different?
We want to reduce waste in the most simple way possible: By not producing.
Woah, okay. How?
We don’t acquire products from our vendors through production orders. We only purchase garments that have an excess of supply, saving them from ending up in the trash. We do this in three ways:
1. Rescuing risk items: Lots of brands have in-season product with an excess of stock in their warehouse. These are the items at risk of going to markdown even before they’ve been offered in full price. We want to give these clothes a chance to be sold at the price they deserve. This reduces markdown consumption and ultimately means less waste in landfills.
2. Special editions: Some brands produce exclusive editions with limited pieces that are manufactured beforehand. We want these special edition garments to find a special home.
3. 100% recycled: We love upcycling. We support brands that give clothes a second life using recycled materials.
